Living My Life with Genital Herpes

by Brittany

I was diagnosed about a year ago with genital herpes. It was at my 6 week check-up after having my son. It felt like I had torn my stitches. My OB-GYN at the time had taken a swab and sent it to the lab. About 2-3 days later was when I received the call that changed my life forever. I was told over the phone that I had genital herpes. I felt like my life was over. I became extremely depressed and suicidal. I thought my beautiful baby boy had herpes. I cried for 2 weeks straight. I felt like I would never find someone that would love me.

My first outbreak was mild but with some burning, itching, and irritation when using the bathroom. I moved out of state to try to have a fresh start. Shortly after moving was when I found my wonderful fiancé. We began dating in October 2011. I told my fiancé about the herpes about 3 weeks after we began dating. That was one of the hardest things I had to do. I was 100% sure that he would leave me. Instead of leaving me, he told me that stuff like this happens. I knew then that I had found the man that I was meant to be with.

Since being diagnosed with genital herpes I have had a total of 5 outbreaks in a little over a year. They started out mild but have grown to become more intense and painful. When I have an outbreak I take Acyclovir 3 times a day for 5 days. Normally within 5 days, my outbreak is gone.

I want to say thank you to Gary. I found this website on Google while I was looking for pictures of genital herpes on a male. I am still extremely worried that my beautiful baby boy has it. This website has truly opened my eyes and has thoroughly explained the virus.

Thank you Gary!

So sorry about the news

I'm 30 and just got diagnosed. Yes, I'm also devastated though I'm not pregnant. I just wanted to leave a note to say hang in there! I can't imagine the fear you must be going through for your kids. However, remember you can't control everything in your environment and I'm sure you're doing everything possible to make sure your kids are safe. But no matter what happens I'm sure you will do everything in your power to be loving parents so please be gentle on yourself emotionally and physically right now. You need energy and rest to create a positive and healthy environment. The stress won't help your health and you need rest the most now.

Lots of love!

Thanks for that Brittany. The father of my son and ex boyfriend gave me herpes while I was 24 weeks pregnant, received the call over the phone too. Since I was diagnosed I've been depressed, wipe every toilet seat I sit on thinking I'm going to give it to everybody. I'm a bit OCD and constantly washing my hands. I hate my X more than ever for giving this to me. I feel as if my sex life is ruined and I will never have a companion.

Help!!!
