Experiences With Acyclovir?

Has anyone had any bad side effects with acyclovir? Especially using it long term? I read some things like dizziness, confusion, and that its not a good idea to drink with it. Would love to hear some others' experiences.

Dear Anonymous,

I’ve been personally taking acyclovir for many years now and it is my drug of choice. Not only because it is cheap but also because I have never experienced any adverse side effects.

But I’ve heard of people who don’t respond well to the medicine. And that’s maybe because each one is different and our bodies react to medicines based on our state of health.

I’ve known people who experience minor side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. Others say they get headaches and pain in the lower abdomen that comes and goes. Some more serious adverse effects of acyclovir can include aggression and confusion and should be reported to a doctor immediately.

I’m on the medication regularly when I’m actively dating a non positive partner. At other times, I take good care of my health and listen to my body. Those who do take it at high doses for long term though have reported experiencing hair loss and hair thinning.

Best is to talk to your doctor about the right dosage that is suitable to your medical history and body weight. After all, they are the experts who can give the correct prescription.

I’m no pharmacologist, but based on my research, if it is your first time taking acyclovir probably better to take small doses first to see how your body reacts to it. Then make your way up once your body has adapted to the medication.

Perhaps some of the readers of this website can also share their thoughts or experiences with using acyclovir on the comment section below.

Regards,

Gary

Acyclovir
by: Anonymous

I was prescribed what might have been a heavy dosage of acyclovir 400mg every eight hours for 10 days. This was prescribed by my gp upon seeing him with my second outbreak. his objective was to knock down the virus to lessen outbreaks. I completed the med over 30 days ago and am left with an awful pain in my rectum which came on at day 3 on this med. I also had terrible pelvic pain, stomach pain and cramps, headaches and a weird metallic sensation in my head/sinuses. I would stay away from acyclovir. Rectum pain is driving me crazy and is ongoing everyday. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what did you do that helped? I have been to several doctors who do not see a physical cause of the pain. Just went for acupuncture today. Desperate.

Experience with Acyclovir
by: Cris

Hi there,

I was one of those who had bad experience with Acyclovir. My side effects weren't the worst in the world, but none the less still affected me. Headaches and stomach aches. While those aren't the worst, they are bothersome. I like natural healing and haven't been to the doctors except for a handful of times in the last 18 years.

After getting a really, and I mean really bad headache I decided that pain to stop my outbreaks wasn't acceptable anymore. That's when I found ProNovex, the thing I liked about it was that it was natural and had no side effects. You know the the funniest thing about it all is that Acyclovir only reduced my outbreaks from frequent to once in awhile, But ProNovex actually stopped my out breaks permanently..... Well, so far! I can tell you something though, I do feel "different" down there. If that makes any sense to people.
