Confused About My Health and Herpes

by Yana

Hello! First of all I am so happy to have found this site! I have recently been diagnosed with herpes. I'm still feeling the stress of finding out. I’ve been in a roller coaster of emotions from shame, depression, to feelings of isolation and loneliness. It's only been about 2 months since I found out and I have had 3 out breaks. I've been doing my research, but how often is too often? I'm freaking out because my outbreaks have been back to back. I know stress can be a trigger. But I’m going to be honest, I am over weight and lately I have been eating horrible. I use to work out regularly...but ever since being diagnosed, I haven't been working out at all. So...I guess what I’m asking is, can an overweight person who isn't living the healthiest life style get reoccurring OB? Or is it because it's a new virus that my body needs to get use to it? Any advice or feedback would be sooo appreciated.....Thank You!

Dear Yana,

The herpes virus can be a little tricky sometimes. The first outbreak is usually the worst as your body is starting to adjust with this "intruder". Outbreaks get triggered when we get stressed, don’t get adequate sleep, have unhealthy vices like smoking and drinking too much, and yes... when we don’t eat right and lack exercise in our lives.

In order to win the battle against this silly virus, we need to try our best to avoid these triggers and stay in shape by making wise decisions to our health. Consider doubling up your medication as well and you would see fewer (or none at all) outbreaks in no time.

If anything, herpes can help us get a more quality of life as it teaches us to take care of our bodies. After all, this is the body you are going to be in for the rest of your life, and you need to love it because it's all you have.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Perhaps other readers of this website can help share their experiences and advice on your situation.

God bless.

Gary
