What is the Correct Answer?

I was just diagnosed with Herpes about 1 month ago. I had a couple of small pimple type bumps in the vaginal area. I was devastated as I am 33 years old and never been married with no kids. I focused on my education my entire life and never wanted to marry at an early age. I have been with my partner for 1 year and 5 months. He was completely supportive.

My gynecologist did two tests on me...one was a culture of the sore and the other was a blood test. The blood test came back negative but the culture came back PCR positive. She said that I more than likely got it from my current boyfriend because I had an acute infection and not a chronic.

My boyfriend talked to his doctor and his doctor said there is no way that my doctor can tell who I got it from. He also told him that there is no point testing him because it will come back negative as he just had tons of blood work done. My doctor also said that my boyfriend’s test can come back negative but he can still be a carrier. This is all so confusing....especially when doctors say different things.

Now I am super paranoid about getting another outbreak. I am a healthy 33 year old, exercise daily and eat a healthy diet. I feel that every time I have sex with my boyfriend I will get an outbreak.

I love your site. I have found it very informative.

Thank you.
