by Rene Davis

I am having my first breakout in a foreign country. I am on cream and 2 pills. My sores are so severe is there anything I can do to alleviate or speed up the sores and not have to keep ice in my crotch all day.

Thank you

Dear Rene,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having a hard time. Indeed, the first breakout is usually the worst. But hang in there. It all gets better from here.

For quick relief, try taking a warm bath every morning. Sprinkle a few amounts of Epsom salt or baking soda into the bath. Then whenever you have to pee, have running water ready to soothe the pain of passing urine. Or brew a cup of tea and place (cooled) tea bags directly on the sores. The tannic acids from tea can help relieve itchiness and tingling from sores.

Other natural treatments for herpes include:

1)Prunella vulgaris. Your grandmother probably used this one before. Also known as heal-all, this medicinal plant is used as antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic, diuretic, antidiarrheal and is used to prevent outbreaks.
2)Aloe vera. The gel inside an Aloe vera is very helpful in soothing the skin from herpes sores. It also promotes healing. If you don’t have an aloe vera plant, you can buy pre-packed Aloe vera gel.
3)L-lysine. Lysine is an amino acid that is known to help treat herpes. You can get it by eating foods rich in protein. Although not scientifically proven, many sufferers of herpes swear by its effectiveness.

Also consider doubling up on your medication. The faster you take action, the quicker the sores will heal and the better you will feel. For more information, check our page on Natural Herpes Treatment.

Best is to take a lot of rest. Be kind to yourself. Stay away from stress triggers that can cause outbreaks.

Hope this helps!

Gary
